Toxic PFAS "forever chemicals" are polluting Manchester’s air and the Merrimack River.
Right now, Manchester’s closed landfill and, most likely, about a dozen more local industrial sources send wastewater laden with forever chemicals to the city’s sewage treatment plant. The plant releases forever chemicals into our air – when sludge is burned in an incinerator near homes. And it discharges wastewater contaminated with forever chemicals into the Merrimack River.
Forever chemicals are linked to cancer, immune system damage, and pregnancy complications – and once they enter our environment, they are nearly impossible to remove.
Manchester’s elected officials can stop this pollution by passing an ordinance to limit industrial discharges of forever chemicals into the wastewater treatment plant. But they won’t act unless they hear from you.

Dear Mayor Ruais and Manchester Aldermen,
Manchester’s wastewater treatment plant and sludge incinerator are releasing PFAS, known as “forever chemicals,” into the Merrimack River and Manchester’s air. We need your leadership to address this problem and protect our health.
We urge you to amend Manchester’s Sewer Use Ordinance to require industries and Manchester’s inactive landfill to monitor and reduce their forever chemicals pollution – before it reaches our sewage treatment plant, our air, and our waterways.
